Often we have a hard time starting financial planning because it is overwhelming initially. 

So experts, through their research and experience, offered some thumb rules as shortcuts to help us begin with.

These thumb rules can give you some ideas, but we shouldn’t use them solely to take financial decisions as they are generalised. 

And your financial decisions should always be personalised based on your risk profile, goals, etc. So remember, thumb rules are always meant to be used as a guide, not a rule.
